Migration and its effects on the home country society is a much debated issue. Since it became clear that remittances outnumber the official development aid, especially this money sent back by migrants, the use the recipients back home make of it and its possible contribution to development is object of a growing number of studies.
Though most stakeholders agree that the migrants’ money is a considerable contribution to the well being of the family members back home, many aspects of migration and its short- and long-term effects on African societies are contradictory and not yet clear.
